Rob Jones scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for No. 16 Saint Mary's, but it was not enough as Saint Mary's (27-6) fell to Purdue 72-69 Friday in Omaha in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Terone Johnson sparked Purdue (22-12), as he scored 21 points, hauled in four rebounds, had five assists, and made 9-of-13 shots from the floor for the Boilermakers in the game.

Terone Johnson sparked Purdue (22-12), as he scored 21 points, hauled in four rebounds, had five assists, and made 9-of-13 shots from the floor for the Boilermakers in the game.

Other Purdue scorers in double figures included Lewis Jackson, who scored 18 and Anthony Johnson and Robbie Hummel, who each scored 10. Mitchell Young was 6-of-8 from the floor and chipped in 12 points for the Gaels. Saint Mary's also got a double-digit effort from Matthew Dellavedova, who scored 12. The Gaels lost despite outrebounding Purdue 37-25. The Boilermakers were more effective from the floor, shooting 46 percent (26-of-57) to Saint Mary's' 42 percent (27-of-64). .

HALFTIME RECAP: Terone Johnson scored 15 points for Purdue in the first half to carry the Boilermakers to a 31-24 lead over No. 16 Saint Mary's. Purdue led from the start and led by as many as 11 points. The Gaels went into a funk with the score 19-16, going 2:18 without a point while the Boilermakers went on an 8-0 run to open up an 11-point lead. Purdue has found a way to neutralize Saint Mary's' leading scorer, Matthew Dellavedova. The junior enters halftime with three points, well below his season average of 15.6. Saint Mary's got points from seven different players. Mitchell Young led the way for the Gaels in the first half, with six points and five rebounds.
