Ohio knocks out Michigan

Ohio pulled out a stunning 65-60 upset over Michigan on Friday in Nashville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. D.J. Cooper sparked the Bobcats with 21 points and four assists, and he made 7-of-11 shots from the floor for Ohio in the game. The Bobcats hit 51 percent of their field goals (22-of-43). Ohio was on fire from beyond the arc during the game, shooting 38 percent (6-of-16).

FINAL RECAP: Ohio pulled out a stunning 65-60 upset over Michigan on Friday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Ohio (28-7), thanks to a field goal by Nick Kellogg, led by 13 points with 2:47 left in the first half and yet nearly saw that lead disappear completely. D.J. Cooper sparked the Bobcats, as he scored 21 points, had four assists, and made 7-of-11 shots from the floor for Ohio in the game. The Bobcats hit 51 percent of their field goals (22-of-43). Ohio was on fire from beyond the arc during the game, shooting 38 percent (6-of-16).

The Bobcats also got solid contributions from Walter Offutt, who scored 11 and Reggie Keely and Ivo Baltic, who each scored 10. Evan Smotrycz contributed 15 points, corralled eight rebounds, and knocked down 6-of-8 shot attempts for Michigan (24-10) in the game. The Wolverines also got double-digit performances from Tim Hardaway Jr., who scored 14 and Trey Burke, who scored 16. Ohio trailed 18-17 with 9:10 to go in the first half, but an 18-4 run allowed it to take a 13-point lead late in the first. Kellogg finished the run off with a field goal, which helped Ohio lead 35-29 at halftime. The Bobcats won the free throw battle, shooting 88 percent (15-of-17) from the charity stripe, compared to 82 percent (9-of-11) for Michigan. Ohio has now won five straight games with the victory.

HALFTIME RECAP: D.J. Cooper scored 13 points for Ohio in the first half to carry the Bobcats to a 35-29 lead over No. 14 Michigan. Ohio led 35-22 late in the first half, but allowed the Wolverines to close the gap with a 7-0 run. Trailing 24-22, Michigan went cold, going 2:54 without a point while the Bobcats went on an 11-0 run to open up a 13-point lead. Ohio distributed the ball well, with eight assists on 12 field goals in the first half. Evan Smotrycz led the way for the Wolverines in the first half, with six points and four rebounds.
