Six of the Big Ten’s wrestling teams took to the mat on Friday night. In one of the night’s earlier matches, Illinois welcomed in-state rival Northwestern to Huff Hall and captured a 26-10 dual win. Northwestern @ Illinois “The Slam” I doubt very much a “slam” was called by the official, he more likely called unnecessary roughness, but he could have called it that way. When you rise up onto your toes and then drive your shoulder into the guy’s midsection, that really isn’t that tough of a call. I called it TWICE on Saturday at a HS tournament. You really should put an official with the announcers, so they can explain why something was or wasn’t called. The rules change every year, and guys that haven’t coached or wrestled in years don’t even know what changes have taken place. It just makes the announcers sound ignorant about the rules.
