Football Report: Go inside Urban Meyer's office

On tonight’s Big Ten Football Report, we aired an all-access feature where newly hired Urban Meyer gave us a tour of his office at Ohio State. BTN analyst Gerry DiNardo interviewed Meyer during the behind-the-scenes piece. Also, you can catch DiNardo’s interview with Meyer on next week’s Football Report.

    Scott, Earlier this year Mike Hall hosted a show called “Step into My Office,” where he went to every Big Ten coach’s office for a light-hearted interview. This isn’t a part of that show, but it’s the same idea. Thanks.

Meyer can lose to Michigan and Michigan State, or Wisconsin, just as easily as any other coach in America. OSU will be significantly behind UM & MSU in terms of returning and incoming talent in 2012. Meyer can’t make any of his defensive players suddenly fast enough to catch Denard Robinson from behind, or Roy Roundtree, or Fitz Toussaint, nor can he run the ball against UM’s or MSU’s defenses with such feeble RB’s as the Buck Nuts have on their roster.

Roby on 1/10/2012 @ 10:12pm EDT Said:

Meyer already has the 7th ranked (as of now) recruiting class coming into next season ….so meyer has already made a difference and if you don’t think OSU with meyers spread offense won’t be owning the big ten then your a fool…

Scott- easy big guy. The Big Ten Network has interviewed every coach in the conference. By the way, adults don’t shorten words such as are and you.

Jim-Are you serious? OSU has lost to Michigan and MSU once each in the last six years. Michigan barely won this year, at home, with Ohio State in total disarray. MSU didn’t exactly put on an offensive display in Columbus. The only coach to compare to Meyer won the title last night. Meyer will dominate the mediocre Big Ten, even more than Tressel did.

When will this program air again?

Andrew on 1/11/2012 @ 9:22am EDT Said:

If you really think that OSU is extremely behind UM or MSU you must not have cable. We have everybody returning, except for about 5-6 starters maybe. No defense is fast enough to catch Denard he is by far typically the fastest player on the field (have fun with Alabama). OSU had 327 total yards against UM, 137 of them were rushing yards. The offense in that game was fine, the problem with rushing in that game is that when you rush on first down every single time up the middle a smart defense will figure that out. Check the past years on rushing stats. Be careful what you wish for Carlos Hyde (might) be the starter, we do have Brionte Dunn (recruit UM would have loved) and Warren Ball coming in. The show did this for Urban Meyer because he was not around for the “Step into my office” show. Urban Meyer is a big name also just deal with it.

Darrell on 1/11/2012 @ 7:27pm EDT Said:

I think people are excited about Urban because they see him as the guy that can help the Big Ten compete against the SEC for a NC. Right now the Big Ten is not competetive and we need a guy like this to push Ohio State and also all the other Big Ten teams.

Mike on 1/12/2012 @ 8:18am EDT Said:

Darrell, you’re a smart man. Everybody else seems to be wrapped up with which coach gets more “air time”. The reality is that, overall, the Big Ten does not compete well against the SEC in football (I’m a Buckeye fan but DO need to thank MSU for the lone win against an SEC team in the bowls ths year). Urban Meyer is one step in the right direction to overcome that trend for the entire conference.

@Jim Adams:

WOW, I mean, I’m a Buckeye homer and I bleed Scarlet & Gray as much or more than the next Buckeye football fan, but I’ve never seen a more out-of-touch-with-reality fan base than the fans of Ann Arbor…

Ohio State was 6-7 and not very good in 2011 and yet, Ann Arbor barely escaped with a 6-point win — at home no less — BEFORE Urban Meyer vaulted the 2012 class from 20-something up to 4th currently, and he’s not even finished yet either.

Read it, and weep Jimbo…
