Big Ten names hoops players of the week

The Big Ten Conference announced its latest Men’s Basketball Players of the Week on Monday, and the honorees featured two student-athletes who earned their second honors of the young season. See who took home the awards and what they did this past week in this post. Also, check out the women’s winners here.

Player of the Week: Meyers Leonard, Illinois, C – So. – 7-1 – Robinson, Ill. – Robinson

  • Averaged 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in Illinois’ 64-60 win over Cornell and 78-74 loss to No. 9/8 Missouri in St. Louis last week
  • Also averaged 3.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor last week
  • Set a career high with 16 rebounds against Cornell
  • Earns his second Player of the Week award of the season and of his career
  • Last Illinois Player of the Week: Meyers Leonard (Dec. 5, 2011)

Freshman of the Week: Aaron White, Iowa, F – 6-8 – Strongsville, Ohio – Strongsville

  • Averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as Iowa defeated Central Arkansas (105-64) and Boise State (81-72) last week
  • Shot 66.7 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the line last week
  • Set a career high with two blocks against Central Arkansas
  • Reels in his second Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Iowa Freshman of the Week: Aaron White (Nov. 14, 2011)

I agree Myers went off big against Cornell…..but what about what Joe Bertrand did coming off the bench against Mizzou…..now theres your player of the week
