Tom, You said OSU would not over sign, 82 scholarships 59 on scholarship plus 25 recruits equals 84. Over signing. The rules are different for OSU just admit it. They get all the advantages that the rest of the schools don’t get.

You make good points. Still, this exemption that Ohio State received (an exemption that any school can apply for) has caused a lot of angst among some fans. And, really, it shouldn’t. It’s not like OSU is getting some “special favor.”

As a life long Purdue sports fan and a current Purdue grad student….it is safe to say Hope is “hopeless” as a Big Ten head coach. He has a few great qualities but his errors far outweigh them. The loss to Rice this year was greatly attributable to him and his staff. The 2 coaches that would work better are already taken though (Sumlin and Leach). I say let him have another year before talking extension.

I think Michigan and Rich Rodriguez were granted the coaching waiver in 2007 when Lloyd Carr was coaching the team for the Capital One Bowl, so it has been done in the Big Ten previously. It’s a very common practice.

With all the problems in college athletics, this is way down the totem pole as far as competitive advantage.
