(AP) Coach Jerry Kill returned to the Minnesota sideline one week after suffering a seizure during a game and watched Marqueis Gray rack up 334 total yards in a 29-23 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. Gray threw for 163 yards and rushed for 171 more and Duane Bennett blocked a punt and recovered in the end zone to hand Kill his first victory as coach of the Golden Gophers (1-2). Kill made it through the game without incident, a big relief to Gophers fans and his players who watched him collapse at the end of last week's loss. FINAL: MarQueis Gray put the team on his back in Minnesota's 29-23 win over Miami (OH) on Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium, rushing for 175 rushing yards. Minnesota (1-2) didn't capture the lead until the fourth quarter. With 14:23 to go, Gray hit John Rabe in the endzone from one yard out to give the Golden Gophers a 23-16 lead. Despite facing a 13-point deficit, Miami (0-2) closed to within striking distance of Minnesota late, but the Golden Gophers survived the comeback attempt and secured the win. Minnesota racked up 409 total yards. The Golden Gophers' rushing attack contributed 241 yards on 45 carries in addition to Gray's passing effort. Minnesota's Gray went 12 of 22 through the air for a total of 168 yards. Gray finished the game with one touchdown and no interceptions. Zac Dysert threw for 241 yards while completing 27 of 47 passes for the RedHawks. Dysert finished the game with two touchdowns and one interception. Dysert had a trusted receiver in Nick Harwell. He hauled in 11 catches for 73 yards. Miami's offense finished the game having gained 321 yards, including 241 passing yards on 27 completions. The RedHawks' ran for just 80 yards on 21 attempts.

FOURTH QUARTER: Minnesota landed a win over Miami after securing a fourth quarter lead and hanging on, 29-23. With 14:23 to go, MarQueis Gray hit John Rabe in the endzone from one yard out to give the Golden Gophers the lead, 23-16. Minnesota broke the tie when the Golden Gophers scored on Gray's pass to cap off a 12-play, 60-yard drive, giving Minnesota the lead, 23-16. The Golden Gophers went to the air just three times. Minnesota's score on Duane Bennett's punt block gave the Golden Gophers a charge of momentum and made the score 29-16. The RedHawks closed the gap to 29-23 when Zac Dysert found Dawan Scott open for a 26-yard touchdown pass to cap an 80-yard drive. Every yard came through the air.

THIRD QUARTER: Minnesota's MarQueis Gray threw for eight yards and ran for 83 yards in the quarter, but the two teams are tied 16-16 at the end of the third. The Golden Gophers made their lead 16-10 when Chris Hawthorne kicked a 26-yard field goal on the last play of a 12-play, 66-yard drive. Minnesota's drive stalled at Miami's five-yard line and the Golden Gophers settled for a field goal. Minnesota kept the ball on the ground during the drive, throwing only two passes. The RedHawks tied things up at 16 when a seven-play, 77-yard drive ended after Zac Dysert threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens. The Golden Gophers have the ball on Miami's three-yard line to begin the fourth quarter.

SECOND QUARTER: Donnell Kirkwood did his best to lead Minnesota in the quarter. He ran for 12 yards and one touchdown and the Golden Gophers now lead 13-10. Minnesota broke the tie when Kirkwood pounded in a four-yard touchdown run to cap off a 10-play, 80-yard drive, giving the Golden Gophers the lead, 10-3. Minnesota opened up a lead, 13-3, after Chris Hawthorne drilled a 19-yard field goal to end an eight-play, 61-yard drive. Despite driving to Miami's two-yard line, the Golden Gophers had to settle for a field goal. Pass plays were an afterthought for Minnesota, as the Golden Gophers threw just two passes on the drive. The RedHawks made the score 13-10 after Erik Finklea turned a handoff into a one-yard touchdown to finish off a 95-yard drive. Miami went to the air just three times. Minnesota will start the second half with the ball.

The Golden Gophers tied things up at three when a six-play, 73-yard drive ended after Chris Hawthorne kicked a 34-yard field goal. Minnesota has possession on Miami's nine-yard line to start the second quarter.
