(AP) Keith Wenning threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score Saturday, giving Ball State a 27-20 upset of Indiana. Wenning was 23 of 29 and ran for 61 yards, including a key first down late to help the Cardinals win their second straight over Indiana. The teams last met in 2008. Ball State rushed for 210 yards in coach Pete Lembo's debut. Ball State trailed 17-14 at halftime, but tied it on a 38-yard field goal just after the break and took the lead on a perfect 20-yard pass from Wenning to Connor Ryan in the corner of the end zone late in the third quarter. FINAL: Keith Wenning threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns, leading Ball State to a 27-20 victory over Indiana on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. At one point, the Hoosiers trailed by 10 points, and while Indiana made a run in the game's late stages, it couldn't complete the comeback against the Cardinals. Edward Wright-Baker kept the Hoosiers' offense on track, throwing for 271 yards and one touchdown on 20 of 32 passing. Ball State racked up 384 total yards. The Cardinals complemented Wenning's passing with 210 yards rushing on 46 attempts. Indiana's offense finished the game having gained 378 yards. Along with Wright-Baker's stats in the passing game, the Hoosiers also added 107 yards rushing on 32 attempts.
FOURTH QUARTER: Jahwan Edwards did his best to lead Ball State in the quarter. He ran for 48 yards and the Cardinals kept Indiana at bay for a 27-20 victory. Ball State expanded its lead to 27-17 thanks to a 18-play 80-yard drive that ended when Steven Schott made a 22-yard field goal. The Cardinals kept the ball on the ground during the drive, throwing only one pass. The Hoosiers capped off a 59-yard drive when Mitch Ewald kicked a 27-yard field goal to make the score 27-20. The passing game accounted for every yard. Indiana's Damarlo Belcher went over 100 yards receiving for the game in the quarter, he finished with 101 yards receiving overall.
THIRD QUARTER: Two big plays sparked Ball State's offense to 10 points and the Cardinals have taken the lead 24-17. Ball State threw for 68 yards and ran for 65 yards in the third quarter. The Cardinals got even after Steven Schott kicked a 38-yard field goal to end a 13-play, 48-yard drive that tied the score at 17. A 11-play, 70-yard drive by Ball State ended when Keith Wenning hit Connor Ryan in the endzone from 20 yards out, breaking the tie and giving the Cardinals a 24-17 lead. Indiana's Edward Wright-Baker went over 200 yards passing for the game in the quarter, he now has 201 yards passing in the game. The Hoosiers will start the fourth quarter with the ball on Ball State's nine-yard line.
SECOND QUARTER: Indiana got things going through the air in the second quarter, passing for 128 yards and the Hoosiers are now up just 17-14. Ball State tied the score at seven apiece after Keith Wenning tossed a one-yard touchdown to Barrington Scott to cap a 16-play, 84-yard drive. Edward Wright-Baker found Damarlo Belcher open for a 65-yard touchdown pass to break the tie and give Indiana a 14-7 advantage after a seven-play, 80-yard drive. The Cardinals tied things up at 14 when a 17-play, 73-yard drive ended after Wenning ran one yard to paydirt. The Hoosiers broke the tie when Mitch Ewald kicked a 116-yard field goal to cap off a 13-play -33-yard drive, which gave Indiana a 17-14 lead. Ball State will get the ball to start the second half.
FIRST QUARTER: Matt Perez had a productive quarter for Indiana. He ran for 26 yards and one touchdown and the Hoosiers lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Ball State has the ball on Indiana's 36-yard line to begin the second quarter.
